Distinguish flavour descriptions from the recipe
Words such as chocolatey or nutty initially describe a sensory impression. If a product is labelled “flavoured” or “Aromatizzato”, read the ingredients carefully. Do not infer either the presence or absence of nuts from a flavour word or product photo.
A specific example: Lollo Caffè Nocciola
Lollo Caffè Aromatizzato alla Nocciola is explicitly described in the range as coffee with added hazelnut flavouring. That differs from a classic coffee described merely as having nutty notes. Check the current product information and delivered pack when buying; a description of another variety is not a substitute.
Check ingredients and highlighted allergens
The Swiss FSVO explains that an ingredient list orders ingredients by weight at the time of manufacture, and allergens requiring declaration are clearly identified. Read this information for the specific variety. The E.S.E. format does not establish either freedom from allergens or a particular recipe. If information essential to your choice is missing, clarify it with the supplier before buying.
Distinguish coffee from other drink portions
The E.S.E. speciality range also includes other types of drink. “D’orzo”, for example, refers to a barley drink; tea is not flavoured coffee either. First check which drink is described, then its ingredients, preparation and explicitly stated suitability for your appliance.
Try it with a clear expectation
If you want added flavouring, choose a product explicitly described that way. If you want classic coffee, follow its product name and ingredient information. For a flavour comparison, first prepare the variety as recommended, then add milk or other ingredients to taste.
Questions and answers
Does coffee with nutty notes always contain nuts?
A flavour description alone does not answer the ingredient question. Check the ingredients and allergen information for the specific product, especially if this information is essential to your choice.
Do all E.S.E. pods contain only coffee?
Alongside classic coffee, the range includes flavoured products and portions for other drinks. Read the specific product name and ingredient information; a similar pod shape does not describe the recipe.
Does “sweet” in the description mean sugar has been added?
Not automatically. A sweet flavour description and added sugar are different pieces of information. The ingredient list determines the composition.
